Teacher Themis Scalco was born in Espumoso, central region of RS, south of Brazil. In her late teens, her willingness to see more of the world took her to California where she stayed one year practicing English in the most authentic environment. Her High School certificate was obtained in Watsonville High School, CA and made it possible for her to attend Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, CA where she came in touch with students from all over the world.

Back in Brazil but restless in the pursue of more travel experiences, she frequented the Federal University of RS – UFRGS, where she earned a degree in English Translation and then set off to the Middle East, Israel, where she studied the rudiments of Hebrew and, again, met people from all over and all walks of life who were experiencing what life in kibbutz was like while giving themselves breaks from who knows what … Quite an interesting experience!!!
